(AXcess News) Reno - Sony is set to begin selling 3-D televisions in Canada and the United States in June. Sony will offer consumers its fully capable 3-D TV model in four sizes; 42 46-inch 3-D TV models will hit store shelves on June 10. The other 3-D TV models are 52 and 56 inch screens, which will go on sale July 16.
Sony did not give a global release date for its 3-D TV.
The Sony 3-D televisions will range in price from $3,150 for the 42-inch model to $6,325 for its largest 3-D TV, the 60 inch model.
Like movies produced in 3-D, viewers will need to wear special glasses, which Sony is providing one pair along with each of its 3-D TV models.
Sony is forecasting 2.5 million 3-D TVs will be sold next year, about 10% of its 25 million television goal.
Sony has yet to reach profitability for its flat-panel televisions and game consoles, though the Company is hoping that next year it will see the light and looks to its 3-D TVs to help achieve it.
Sony senior vice-president Yoshihisa Ishida said at a press conference in Tokyo, "We will go on the offensive in 2010."
